DARING TO TAKE JESUS AT HIS WORD
August 03, 2014

How is it that we take some of Jesus words seriously, but not others?

We gladly and thankfully accept His offer of salvation (John 3:16-18), a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), an abundant life (John 10:10), all that we need (Matt. 6:31-33) and rest from our weariness (Matt. 11:28-30). Then we go ahead and spend our lives making money, being comfortable, acquiring stuff, and having fun.

The same Jesus,

The one who spoke the entire universe into existence (Hebrews 11:3),

The one through whom and for whom all things have been created (Colossians 1:16),

Who has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18),

Who knows your inmost being (Psalm 139:13,14),

And is acquainted with all your strengths and weaknesses (Psalm 139:1-4),

Who loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3),

And promises to be with us always (Matthew 28:20),

Has also given us a task to do:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you”. (Matthew 28:19,20)

The challenge

We live in a world where 29.4% of people are still unreached with the gospel, that’s 2.6 billion, or 1 out of every 3 people on earth. These people are still in the grip of worship of false gods with little chance of hearing about the sacrifice of Christ for their sins before they die.

It is only in Jesus, and in full obedience to Him that we find our purpose, satisfaction and joy (Acts 17:28) (Psalm 16:11) (Psalm 100), and have life to the full (John 10:10).

There are great challenges in what He commands, but Jesus’ commission is clear:

Take Him at His word…all of it, trust Him, obey Him, put it into practice…go!
